Clarion becomes UK's first provider to adopt sustainable housing label

Clarion Housing is the first housing association in the country to adopt the Certified Sustainable Housing Label.

The UK’s largest affordable housing provider Clarion Housing is set to become a pioneer of a major new pan-European initiative which promotes sustainability.

Clarion is the first housing association in the country to adopt the newly developed Certified Sustainable Housing Label.

The label incorporates 30 social and green indicators and mirrors the principles developed by the United Nations that have become the benchmark goals for impact investing.

“As the UK’s largest affordable housing provider, creating truly sustainable communities where people can thrive is at the core of our mission.”

Through the initiative Clarion will be better placed to benchmark its performance in the sustainability field against other affordable providers across Europe.

The label could also help to attract a broader range of investors, particularly those with a requirement for ‘positive impact’ investment.

Clarion amongst first housing providers in Europe to be certified

Rob Lane, group commercial services director for Clarion Housing Group, said:

“As the UK’s largest affordable housing provider, creating truly sustainable communities where people can thrive is at the core of our mission. By following these internationally recognised standards we will be better informed about the impacts our activities have on the communities we serve.”

Along with Gewobag in Berlin and Vilogia in Paris, Clarion is among the first affordable housing providers in Europe to be granted the certification. The label has been developed by consultants RITTERWALD.
