In 2017, Clarion set out plans to transform the Barne Barton estate in Plymouth. The ambitious plans will regenerate what was once the largest Naval estate in Britain and are the result of close working with residents, the local community and Plymouth City Council.
Under the proposals Clarion aims to demolish and rebuild the entire estate to provide existing tenants with well designed new homes. The ambitious proposals will also provide opportunities for low-cost homeownership.
Originally built for the MOD back in the 1960s, Clarion is the main landlord there and manages 228 two bedroom flats for affordable rent as well as a number of houses.
A masterplan has been developed in partnership with Exeter-based Clifton Emery Design that sets out the vision for streets, buildings and outside spaces in the proposed new neighbourhood. Feedback from the local community will inform the preparation of a planning application for the entire estate that will be submitted to Plymouth City Council.
